AI answers are the new front page
Ask ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, Perplexity, or Gemini for "the best med spa near me" and you don't get a list of links to scroll. You get an answer — a few specific businesses, named, often with a sentence on why. For a growing share of your customers, that answer is the entire search. They pick from the names and move on.
So the question that used to be "where do we rank on Google?" is now "does the AI name us when it answers?" Those are not the same thing, and being great at the old one does not get you the new one.
Where the AI gets its answer
The AI doesn't know your town. It builds its answer from the sources it trusts — review sites, business directories, and articles that talk about businesses like yours. For a med spa that means places like RealSelf and Google reviews; for a law firm, Avvo and Justia; for a home-services company, Google, Angi, and the BBB.
If those sources have clear, consistent, recent information about you, the AI can name you with confidence. If your information is thin, out of date, or contradicts itself across sites, the AI plays it safe and names someone else. It would rather give a confident answer about a competitor than a shaky one about you.
Why good businesses get left out
The businesses AI names are not always the best ones — they're the ones it has the best information about. We see excellent businesses get skipped for three boring reasons: their listings disagree with each other (different hours, addresses, or names on different sites), they have few recent reviews that mention what they actually do, and the local "best of" articles the AI reads never mention them.
None of that is about the quality of your work. It's about whether the AI has enough solid, agreeing information to be confident putting your name in the answer.
What actually moves it
Three things move the needle, in plain terms. First, get your facts straight everywhere the AI looks, so nothing contradicts. Second, build up real, recent reviews that mention the services you want to be known for. Third, get included in the local lists and write-ups the AI already trusts.
The biggest single factor is being written about by outlets the AI already trusts — real press. No honest company can promise a publication runs a story, so we don't. What we do is pitch them for you and build things worth writing about. Everyone who claims to guarantee press is either lying or buying links that get you penalized.
How you know it's working
The same way we'd prove it to ourselves: by asking the AI the questions your buyers ask and writing down whether it names you, on a date. We do that before we start and we keep doing it, so you always see exactly where you come up and where you don't. No vanity dashboard, no "trust us."
AI answers shift week to week — that's normal, and we measure them as a moving picture, never a one-time promise. Anyone who guarantees you a fixed AI ranking doesn't understand how these systems work.
